Department of Sport and Recreation
The Department of Sport and Recreation is the lead agency responsible for the implementation of government policy and initiatives in sport and recreation.
The Western Australian Government has consistently committed to supporting the development of a sustainable and diverse sport and recreation system in Western Australia that encourages participation, develops talent and contributes to the health and wellbeing of individuals and groups.
Our key role is to contribute to the healthy lifestyle of Western Australians by increasing physical activity in the community through sport and recreation.
Our priorities include:
• Encouraging more Western Australians to be physically active.
• Strengthening the capacity of sport and recreation organisations.
• Promoting sound infrastructure planning and sustainable facilities.
• Providing affordable recreation camp experiences.
Surf Life Saving in Western Australia is a volunteer based not-for-profit community service association providing an essential educational and emergency rescue service to all users of West Australian beaches.
Surf Life Saving Western Australia is the key agency for beach safety and a vital community service playing a fundamental role in building healthy communities.
Our activities address many community and Government policies such as safer communities, obesity, physical activity, youth development, training and education, and family.
Surf Life Saving Western Australia comprises of a State centre, 28 Surf Life Saving clubs located around the coastline and over 18,000 members who all share our vision – Australian for Life.
Canoeing Western Australia is the state body responsible for the management, co-ordination, development and promotion of paddle sports in Western Australia. We represent the interests of our members to government, the public and to Australian Canoeing.
Our association is a confederation of the affiliated paddling clubs and other organisations, and was formed in 1966. We conduct a wide range and competition and recreational events in all forms of paddle sports.
There are no restrictions or limitations on participating in paddling. General fitness and the ability to swim may help, but otherwise you can participate in both paddling competitively and paddling recreationally, at any age.
